Hello,
I've got a S4 and I've got aqua mail installed on it, very good program, but I've got this annoying aqua mail sync icon (its like a A inside a circular sync icon similar to a @ symbol) how do i get rid of this icon its annoying me.

You can disable it in Settings->Look and Feel->Status bar icon.
It says that it is required for proper operation. However everything seems to work fine on my Nexus 5 and old Nexus 4.

Lol,
I just happened to read this because I noticed that Icon as well, but it does not bother me. If it is required for proper operation, why does the option to turn it off exist? Does the Trunk Monkey jump out and knock you on the head if you disable it? lol Just something to think to think about..

Don't know who Trunk Monkey is, but the name sounds scary.
Since you wanted to know the details:
- The "by the book" method to have a long-running background process doing something important for the user involves posting a status bar notification.
This tells the system "please don't kill this process, let it hang in memory and do what it needs to do".
It's been that way since Android 2.0, and you can read about it here:
http://android-developers.blogspot.ru/2010/02/service-api-changes-starting-with.html
- With the setting for the icon "off", Aqua will use its own "tricks" to stay in memory. Those tricks work pretty well, but the warning is still there just in case, since it's not the official documented method.

Is it possible, to change the colour of the icon to white? That would be fine, because all of my icons in the bar are white.
-
That icon was white before (a long time ago), and many uses were mistaking it for new message notifications.
-
Maybe a setting to change the app's launcher title too?
- AquaMail
- AlphaMail
- BetaMail
- GammaMail
...
- ZetaMail
- KatherineZetaJonesMail
- A template with %d replaced by week day, %t by current temperature (+ a setting to choose between C and F... oh, I forgot about K), and %g replaced by a Greek letter of the week, from The Greek Cultural Council's web site?
I'm sorry, but this is getting ridiculous.
A white color icon was confusing to a certain number of users, who took it for the new message notification.
Anyone who finds the icon "annoying" (as it says in this post's title) can switch it off. There is a setting for it. Then it doesn't matter what color it is, because it's just not there.

Wow, that's really nice, thank you very much :)
I love your app more and more!!
-
Thank you very much for adding this!
Has this change already made it into the release version? I just can't find the setting (on Android 2.3).
-
Colored icons are for Android 4.0+

Okay, no worries!
I'm going to try and disable it completely and see where it goes :)
