Title: Setting up a Fastmail SMTP account using alternative login
Post by: Zipner on April 13, 2014, 07:21:52 pm
I am looking for an Android email client that will allow me to use Fastmails alternative login. I created a 'Regular Password' that has doesn't have full privileges just for my Android Tablet running 4.2.2 The idea is that if I loss my tablet I could just cancel this Regular Password I created and not have to reset my main password.

I can log in using this Regular Password through a webpage but not on the stock email client, K-9 or AquaMail. As anyone else had this problem and found a work around? Everytime I try to set it up it says that the username/password is wrong and after 4 hours of trying I know that they are right!

Hello,

Aqua lets you enter whatever password you want -- if necessary, use the "manual" account setup button, and enter the relevant passwords right on the incoming / outgoing server settings screens.

The app sends whatever you enter, it does not treat Fastmail in any special way. In addition, there are people using a similar Gmail feature (application specific passwords).

Since you're seeing this issue in other mail apps as well, I recommend contacting Fastmail support.

Additionally, you can allow full access, or only restricted. With restricted access, you can only log in to the web interface or FTP, not use IMAP/SMTP etc.. You also can't permanently delete anything and you have no access to settings.
