Title: Push inconsistency
Post by: BigLisy on March 07, 2014, 07:18:55 pm
My gmail account push keep alive duration is set to 10 minutes, with no pollings, and only one folder.

However, checking with BetterBatteryStats, it says that in 30 minutes, AquaMail wakes the phone a good 20+ times. Sometimes even more.

What causes this?

Gmail pings its IDLE connections every five minutes, causing the device to wake up as it receives data.

It also depends on how many folders you have in push mode in AquaMail. With IMAP, each requires its own connections, and will cause the above mentioned wakeups independently of others.

It's more useful to look at the total amount of time spent in wake state -- this is system settings / battery. Another useful statistic there is the app's rank and share (in percent) in the device's system-wide total battery consumption.
