- I start a new email
- I type 'pe' and the contact picker will show me Peter, because he is in my contacts
- I click on the entry and it will be entered into 'to'
- immediately after that I type 'bo' because I want to send it also to Bob, but the 'to' will now show:
Peter White <Peter.w@web.de>, pebo
So, the 'pe' I typed is not replaced by the picked contact. But if I wait for 2 seconds before typing 'bo' the 'to' will show:
Peter White <Peter.w@web.de>, bo
and the contact picker will presents Bob's email.

O hehrstes Wunder!
Yes, indeed.
I was easily able to reproduce it with Swype, but not with Samsung's stock keyboard or SwiftKey.
Are you using Swype, sir?
-
Ja, das ist richtig.
I AM using Swype. So it is a Swype bug? Can you still build a workaround? That would be превосходный.
Thnx!

I just tried it in Gmail. When using Swype, it has the same issue.
Android apps don't deal with a specific keyboard, they just see input characters come in, without knowing what soft keyboard is being used, or if it's a soft or a "real" keyboard at all.
Let's hope that since the issue happens in Gmail too, it'll be fixed by Swype engineers (esp. if they get a bug report).
I just reported it at the link below, feel free to do the same.

More details: happens with latest Swype on Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4; does not happen on a Nexus 5 with 4.4.

I got a response from Swype support today, only took them a month and a day.
Hello,
Engineering was able to reproduce this issue. They will fix it in the future update.
We encourage you to stay tuned at the app stores.

Nuance Mobility Support
