Title: How do I change the password? Improve User interface!
Post by: unix on November 07, 2013, 12:42:48 am
The FAQ entry is useless, it says:

Changing an account’s password in the app
Long press the account (in the account list), choose “Account setup”, enter the new password, press Next.

Once I hit "Account List", all I see is:

Expand Accounts
Show last sync time
Bold account names
Inbox on account tap
Wrap long folder names
Recent folder count
Keep recent folders for

Nothing to "long press". No account list. This is very poor user interface and the FAQ entry is useless. Can you please put in a simple option for "password change" without going through this nonsense?

I figured it out. Cannot believe the stupid user interface.

Fire up the AquaMail. It should take you to the Inbox.

Hit the "Back" arrow. I am using LG Optimus G Pro running Android. This will put you in the account list.

Select and hold the main account. From there, select account setup. Then drill down into password change.

Well, it says "long press the account in the account list".

Besides, if you change the password on the sever, next time the app checks mail it'll get an authentication error.

The account list will then have an error message about it, and the error message is clickable.

Hello ヅ

That doesn't work today, 4 years later... How do I change, or reset my password...?

Thank you in advance!

It's not rocket science. As Kostya stated, long press on the account in the account list. Then tap 'account setup' and the next screen has the password.

Nope... There is no "password" at all...

Edit, no rocket... As you can see now, there is no "password" in my account, no need to be rude ;)

Please post a screenshot of the screen that appears immediately after pressing 'account setup'

Thanks for the screenshots. What I see in the second image is somewhat odd to me. Under the email address and above the line with the checkbox (might the English translation be "show password"?) is where the password setting should be. Unfortunately I'm out of ideas, so I think you're going to have to wait until Kostya takes a look at this.

Thank you so much! No wonder there is a problem for so many to change the password...

I took down the second screenshot, I've forgot to take away my mail...

I would post that second screenshot again (with the email address obscured) as that's the one that convinced me that something is wrong with your installation. It would be helpful for others to see.

If the account uses "password-less" authentication - called OAUTH2 - which we support for Gmail / Yahoo / Hotmail / Yandex, then there is no input field for the password.

And for such accounts, if you change the password (in web mail) - it's not necessary to update the password in Aqua Mail, since it's "password-less".

Thanks Kostya. Having no accounts that are set up with OAUTH2 would explain why I was setting the password field. Hopefully the OP will no simply change the p/w in the web mail account and be good to go.

No it's not.

No idea what "aquagroup.in" is, but it's 1000% not related to this app.

Can we go back to the beginning? What problem are you trying to solve, @Kottebo?

Ah.

The backup file contains your "real" account passwords - which is sensitive information, and you won't want it to fall into wrong hands if the phone is lost or stolen.

And so, the file is encrypted with a password. The backup won't proceed until you've entered one (twice).

Sorry there is no "master password" or "reset" or "remind" feature.

If you don't remember the password to your backup file, you won't be able to restore it. And nobody else will be able to.

Thank you again!

So the easiest for me is to do it all over again, add all accounts and settings, make a password I remember () and save that backup?

Yes. Just please pretend that the "backup and restore" feature is not there :)

I will ask our Project Manager what she thinks about making the password optional (since you're not alone in this).
