Hi,
I'm using IMAP push with three accounts. Two of them (gmail and my business) are working okay, without any problems. There is an issue with my private mailbox. Sometimes (and I cannot figure out when) IMAP Push stops for this particular account. Then it is greyed out in account settings with comment similar to this one: "IMAP Push is not supported in this account". Could you shed some light on this issue? What can be wrong?
I've even decided to make the log, but it worked for two days like a charm and I've disabled logging. Now it happened again :|
When I restart the app (kill and run) - everything works...
My provider uses:
AquaMail [IMAP.1031] Server greeting: * OK life.home.pl IdeaImapServer v0.80 ready
are there any "officially not supporting" issues with this server?
thx!

Aha! I have a log where my push for an account was stopped. These two lines look suspicious:
2013.07.31 02:21:41.598 +0200 AquaMail [*** IDLE ***.1030] No IMAP IDLE support, will not continue the idle task
2013.07.31 02:21:41.599 +0200 AquaMail [*** IDLE ***.1030] Unregistering idle task org.kman.AquaMail.mail.imap.ImapIdleWaitTask@4301a470 [[life.pl:993, sslStrict], kaczor[at]life.pl/INBOX, conn. null]
Kostya, do you know maybe what could be the reason for this, please? Everything worked fine for 6 hours...

Anyone? Any ideas? It is really frustrating :)

I'm here, just not every day.
1 - Servers advertise IDLE when responding to the CAPABILITIES command, you should be able to see this.
2 - This means that the server first claimed it supported IMAP IDLE (so the UI for enabling push in AquaMail was enabled), and then, when the app issues the IDLE command, it got cold feet and could not enter IDLE mode.
Might be due to load balancing - some servers knows as imap.your_mail_provider.pl actually support IDLE, some don't... Or some sort of resource issue on the server -- out of memory, out of file handles, etc.
Feel free to send me the log file, though -- kmansoft / at sign / gmail / dot com.

Maybe it would be possible at least not to disable this field... or the best I can see - give the server a second try and check for support one more time in such case?
-
Retrying might be ok, a limited number of times only.... I'll write it down.
The real question is: what's wrong with the server and does support know?
-
Hi, thanks for the answer. I don't know what is wrong with the server... and moreover, I have some rather bad experience with the support team :\ I don't believe it would be possible to get any reasonable technical answer. Usually contact finishes on the first line support with questions like: have you tried restarting your phone. Next would be: please delete your account in the client app and configure it once again with me... so I expect the final answer would be: we officially do not support IMAP IDLE.
But anyway I can try.

I think you forgot one more typical response: "This email app is not on our list of approved email apps" :)
-
aagh, of course :) K9 is not on the list, I forgot :)
-
K-9?
Am I on the wrong site?
:)
-
Unless it is not neccessary - I'll not reveal my secret ;)
-
My mail hosting support has responded... and as expected: they wrote IDLE is fully supported, but suggested to check other mail clients. :-\

Oh, how nice of them :)
Check this out then:
